Birds of Hart Park, (Bakersfield) Checklist

Hart Park (Kern River County Park) at 370 acres is the premier birding location in the south central valley, with at least 231 species of birds recorded. In 1929, this park was created to satisfy the recreation needs of residents of Bakersfield. Kern County Parks and Recreation maintain this park for picnicking, group activities, and paddle boats. Birding is not a focus of the parks hierarchy, give them a call and let them know how much time and money you spend in our community pursuing this non-polluting sport and how important it is to maintain habitat for birds and other wildlife. Feral cats are a huge problem in the park and action needs to be taken to remove the animals for the health of the cats and other wildlife. (much of the raccoon population was decimated by distemper in 2003 brought in by the cats). (661) 868-7000
